Deny Everything?

by Mary Beth on October 22, 2012

Deny Everything?

Yes, we are capable of being enticed.

Buy the lie, deny everything.

Is this life, to contradict conscience?

All is permissible-

Within this embrace.

Yet deep calls to deep,

Questioning the chase.

Where is the profit?  Is it beneficial?

To pursue Christ is

to take up our cross,

to pray, wait, and allow our trust in Him to grow.

Will not belief attempt?

Otherwise refuse to taste loss?

The power needed in our lives

Is just what the doctor ordered.

Christ’ influence as our disciplinary,

Ideal, crucial and visionary.

To hound efficiency beyond love

Is a liability to declare.

Boast in weakness and pity,

His grace is sufficient and a community.

While entering the gym early one morning,

my attention focused on an elderly man.

He was sporting a hat with the inscription,

“Deny Everything.”

By God’s grace,

my heart, soul, and mind recalled

thoughts of Scripture to counteract this lie.

From earlier study 2 Timothy 3 and Matthew 11 surfaced,

how vital we hide His Word in our hearts.

In our culture with the growing entitlement and rage

to redefine words, history, order, or identities-

may we prevail over denial and challenge such views;

despite the enormous acceptance even amid those of faith.

Depraved minds

End to conscience

No shame, no sorrow

Yeast of pharisee

Eyes of falsehood

Void Fear of God

Envious

Righteous self

Yesterday’s deeds

Trinity declined

Heartless to suffering

I above Christ

Not authentic

Greedy gods

“Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb,
when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness,
when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, When I said,
‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?”
~Job 38:8-11

*

“…Should you not tremble in my presence?  I made the sand a boundary for the sea,
an everlasting barrier it cannot cross.  The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;
they may roar, but they cannot cross it.”
~Jeremiah 5:22
